DEI Statement

The Altindis Lab is dedicated to fostering a research environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are central to our mission. Our team comprises individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, speaking many languages, and includes immigrants, first-generation student scientists, and underrepresented minority (URM) or LGBTQ+ individuals. We see this diversity as a strength, enriching our perspectives and driving innovation in our work.

We are proud to actively collaborate with the McNair Scholars Program and the Gateway Scholars Program at Boston College, supporting and mentoring first-generation and/or URM undergraduate researchers. Dr. Altindis is a founding member of the Biology Department’s DEI Committee and an active participant in DEI initiatives and anti-racist efforts at Boston College, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to creating a more equitable academic community.

By cultivating an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment, we prioritize the personal and professional growth of every lab member, empowering them to excel in their scientific careers while ensuring their physical and mental well-being. Together, we strive to advance science in ways that reflect the richness of our shared experiences and values.
